Over 160 workers were officially laid off from the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant earlier this week, located in Vermont. The plant had discontinued operations at the end of 2014 as planned by Entergy Corporation, due to the high cost of operations.
Several hundred employees were given the opportunity to remain working at the facility to begin the decommissioning phase of the plant shut-down, scheduled through 2016. Layoffs were announced this week in order to comply with the federal worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
