The parent firm of Westinghouse Electric Company, Toshiba Corp, announced last week that it plans to merge three of its existing power corporations to form Toshiba American Energy Systems Corporation. This new company is scheduled to begin operations April 1, 2015 from its headquarters in Charlotte, NC. A new service center in Milwaukee will also be developed.

Toshiba American Energy Systems Corporation (TAES) will be comprised of the nuclear power steam turbine and generator businesses from Westinghouse Electric Company and Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corp, as well as Toshiba International Corp’s hydropower and thermal business arm.

TAES will place its main focus on providing supplies for renewable energy systems, in addition to selling steam turbines and generators into the nuclear power market. Toshiba Corp’s Executive Vice President and Toshiba’s Power Systems Co. President and CEO had this to say regarding the formation of the new company: “This reorganization of key elements of Toshiba Group's power systems business in the US is a major step forward. A unified, focused organization will be more efficient and, most importantly, able to support our customers from planning through to maintenance services.”
