The name Blue Castle Holdings (BCH) may not ring a bell to seasoned nuclear industry professionals, but this energy infrastructure development company has grand plans to develop the leading new nuclear plant site in the Western United States. The firm has selected the Green River Site in Utah as its target for the Blue Castle Project, largely because there are only 8 existing nuclear plants in the Western part of the U.S., with coal plants continuing to close throughout the area due to EPA standards.
A name that is likely much more familiar to industry experts is Westinghouse Electric Company. BCH recently signed a memorandum of understanding to pursue the development of a two-unit AP1000 nuclear power plant, which is Westinghouse’s trademarked plant design. This plant design is currently being constructed in the Southeastern part of the U.S. at the Vogtle and V.C. Summer Nuclear Plant Sites.
Even though this nuclear newcomer still has a long road ahead to acquire a license and construct the facility, Blue Castle Holdings remains confident that nuclear power is a competitive source of base load power.
