The Urenco USA (UUSA) facility has made a request to increase its annual enrichment capacity to 10 million Separative Work Units (SWU) by 2020.
Since it began operation in June 2010, the facility has only been supplying approximately 2 million SWU with a goal of 5.7 million SWU annually by 2015.
According to the article written by World Nuclear News, “the basis for the request to increase the enrichment capacity at the UUSA facility was the need for more reliable and economical domestic enriched uranium”. This new increase would require the construction of additional buildings utilizing a three phase approach.
