Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) is pursuing an extended power uprate (EPU), which would involve equipment upgrades and replacement of major components such as the plant’s high pressure turbine. The proposed modifications would result in an increase to Cooper’s 800 MWe output by 146 MWe.
The NPPD has already received Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approval to extend the plants operating license to 2034. In order for the NPPD to proceed with the upgrades to Cooper Nuclear Station, they will first need to receive approval from state and national regulators.
