Local Energy Provider Works with Tesla on New Battery Project
PUBLISHED: JULY 19, 2017
NAVARRE, FL: Local energy provider Gulf Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE: SO), has joined forces with Tesla for an exciting new project. The “McCrary Battery Energy Storage Demonstration, a 250 kilowatt/1 megawatt-hour Tesla Powerpack lithium-ion industrial energy storage system” broke ground earlier this year in Pensacola.
The purpose of this venture is to make strides in the research and development of new energy storage technologies. These new technologies will enable companies such as Gulf Power to deliver better services to their customers, including power that is cleaner, safer, more reliable and most of all – more affordable.
Tim Anthony, Director of Power Generation and T&D Services at Absolute Consulting, responsible for managing the Gulf Power account, is excited about this project taking off in our local area. Mr. Anthony said “Gulf Power is an impressive leader in this community and the energy industry. I’m very pleased to see the talented work force at Gulf Power willing to tackle future challenges today that benefit their customers now and into the future.”
The project is expected to have a two-year test period. This time will allow employees to gain expertise and experience in the advancing technology. According to Gulf Power, “the project will help accelerate the companies’ understanding of siting, installation and operational requirements of industrial-scale storage systems, as well as the value that battery storage can create for customers and the energy provider.”
